EgyptAir considers the resumption of Cairo-Benghazi flights this summer: EgyptAir official

May 10, 2018

An Egyptair official told Ahram Online on Wednesday that the flagship airliner is considering resuming flights between Cairo and Libya's Benghazi this summer, following four years of suspension due to turmoil in Libya.

The source said EgyptAir will also consider the resumption of Cairo-Tripoli flights this year.

Local Egyptian and Libyan media reported earlier that EgyptAir will begin operating three weekly Cairo-Benghazi flights and four weekly Cairo-Tripoli flights after ensuring that they are cost effective and that conditions are stable at Libyan airports.

Egypt has been a key player in the political process to solve the conflict gripping the North African country since 2014.

Nearly 250,000 Egyptians work and reside in Libya, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported in 2015.

Egypt halted direct flights between Egyptian cities and the Libyan capital Tripoli in 2014.
