Statement attributable to Abdel-Rahman Ghandour, UNICEF Special Representative in Libya, on reports of children killed in Sebha

May 10, 2018

'Three children from the same family reportedly killed, and five people were wounded on Monday, as a bomb hit their homes in the city of Sebha in southern Libya.

'Children are not a target. They should always be kept out of harm’s way and protected at all times. It is unacceptable for children to be targeted through the use of random shelling or any other means resulting in mass casualties.

“UNICEF calls on all parties to the conflict to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect all civilians, including children and stop attacks on civilian infrastructure including schools and health facilities.”
