Velodyne LiDAR More Than Quadruples Production for Autonomous Vehicle Surge

October 11, 2017

(AETOS Wire)-- Velodyne LiDAR Inc., the world leader in 3D vision systems for autonomous vehicles, today announces that it has more than quadrupled production for its high-performance LiDAR sensors to meet strong global demand. As a result, Velodyne LiDAR’s sensors are immediately available via distribution partners in Europe, Asia Pacific, and North America, with industry standard lead-times for direct contracts.

“Velodyne leads the market in real-time 3D LiDAR systems for fully autonomous vehicles,” said David Hall, Velodyne LiDAR Founder and CEO. “With the tremendous surge in autonomous vehicle orders and new installations across the last 12 months, we scaled capacity to meet this demand, including a significant increase in production from our 200,000 square-foot Megafactory.”

Velodyne LiDAR Inc. has bolstered this aggressive production expansion by doubling the number of its full-time employees over the past six months. These employees operate across three facilities in California, including the company’s new Megafactory in San Jose, its long-standing manufacturing facility in Morgan Hill, and the Velodyne Labs research center in Alameda.

Velodyne invented and patented the world’s first 3D real-time LiDAR sensor for autonomous vehicles. Over the last ten years, Velodyne sensors have been installed in thousands of vehicles around the world, traveling millions of real-world miles. Velodyne is the industry standard for localization and environmental perception, providing the core technology for dozens of autonomous vehicle programs in over 10 countries.

About Velodyne LiDAR

Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, Velodyne is a technology company known worldwide for its real-time 3D LiDAR sensors. The company evolved after founder/inventor David Hall developed the HDL-64 Solid-State Hybrid LiDAR sensor in 2005. Since then, Velodyne LiDAR Inc. emerged as the unmatched market leader of real-time 3D vision systems used in a variety of commercial applications including autonomous vehicles, vehicle safety systems, mobile mapping, aerial mapping, and security. Its products range from the high-performance, surround view Ultra-Puck™ VLP-32, classic HDL-32/64 and cost-effective VLP-16, to the upcoming, hidden Velarray™. Velodyne’s rich suite of perception software and algorithms are the key enablers of its perception systems. Velodyne supports customers from offices in San Jose, Detroit, Frankfurt, and Beijing.
